Oakland Coliseum

Ceitronics recently designed and installed an extensive sound system for the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum as part of a $150 million stadium upgrade. Before the renovation, sports fans had complained about audio quality in the stadium. The new system provides effective amplification, directionality, and smoothness.

The main speaker array, mounted on top of the 12-story tall scoreboard, provides both state-of-the-art voice amplification as well as music reproduction. The 32 speakers in the special housing are driven by 42,000 watts of power. In areas where there isn’t direct line-of-sight from the speaker cluster, including halls, club rooms and restrooms, an additional 288 fill speakers are driven by another 6,000 watts of power.

The remote amplifiers, some more than 1,000 feet from the control booth, are turned on in steps by a controller mounted in the audio booth. The 16 subwoofers in the main housing produce powerful bass for such an immense area. Music played through the sound system is entertaining and exciting for the crowd. The small fill speakers have extraordinary frequency response, so spectators can go to get food and still hear all the excitement of the event.
