Fiber Optic and Copper Cable Backbone, IBM Fire Life Safety System

Ceitronics has installed a LAN fire life safety system throughout IBM’s San Jose Campus on Cottle Road. The system is monitored by one computer at the IBM network command center on campus (Building 109). It features a graphical control panel (inset) that monitors and gives
visual information about the status of hundreds of fire and smoke detection points in the buildings on the system. Any change in state is relayed instantaneously.
The wiring for the main computer console (NRT) in Building 109 runs to Building 5. Building 5 is the main hub for the IBM fiber optics network. Most of the remaining buildings are “daisy chained” within Building 5 to set up a National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) Style 4 network system. The fiber path included new fiber network that IBM provided, as well as use of the existing fiber network. Ceitronics also installed additional fiber network. The existing copper path was used in some cases.
