Path Of Access To A Building: How The System Admits And Protects Employees
1. An employee presents a personalized Access Card to the Card Reader, which transmits the employee's access infor-mation to the Card Reader Interface (CRI)
2. The CRI receives the information and sends the employee's identification to the Database on the corporate security server
3. The Database verifies that the employee has authorization to enter/exit the location at the current time and date
4. If the employee has authorization, the CRI sends a signal to the Power Supply to interrupt low voltage power to the Electric Lock to unlock the door. Simultaneously, the CRI allows the person to enter/exit without sending an alarmed condition
5. An Intercom may be used to speak with the Security Department to obtain additional information if necessary
6. If the CRI detects an unauthorized passage (door forced), it sends an alarm signal to the On-Site Monitor or Offsite Monitoring Company
7. If a Fire Alarm occurs, the fire alarm panel triggers the power supply to release the Electric Lock at all doors and provide an unlocked path for employees and fire crews
8. In the event of a fire, the fire alarm panel sends an alarm signal directly to emergency fire services
9. The Closed Caption Television (CCTV) views the areas that need monitoring. A time-lapse recorder (TLR) records all events through a multiplexer capable of recording multiple images on a single screen. If security staff is present, the images can be viewed on an on-site monitor, or sent over a high-speed LAN/WAN to be viewed at a remote location
10. The Offsite Monitoring Company receives the alarm signal via Telephone land lines or backup Cellular service, and summons the necessary emergency services and company personnel
11. In facilities with elevators, an Elevator Control Module provides access control floor-by-floor through typical access-controlled doors
12. Building Management Systems (BMS) control third-party systems such as HVAC, Lighting, fire systems, boiler control systems, and computer room air conditioning
